Kursaal diving board at Ostia Beach
Rome has a beach: it is the neighbourhood of Ostia (“Oh-styeah“), only 25 minutes of train ride from the very centre of the City.
Ostia, built in the years 20s and 30s of the 20th century, offers 9 miles of sandy beaches, a huge pinewood that embraces the city on the northeast side and some unique example of Art Decò and Rationalist architecture of the 30s; among its icons, it surely stands the famous “K shaped” diving board of the Kursaal beach resort.
The neighbourhood of Ostia has a lucky long stretch of warm and sunny days (April to October) that lets you enjoy open air activities such as walks and runs; and even in winter time lovely days, in the mid 60°F (16°/18°C), are frequent: having lunch overlooking the beach, getting a little suntan, is a custom habit that you will enjoy all year round.
Ostia has among its stunning features: the incredible colourful sunset on the beach you can admire all year round and enjoy with a drink in your hand and your feet in the sand, starting from may through all summer.
Ostia is only 5 minutes of train or taxi ride from the impressive archeological park of Ostia Antica: the biggest in Europe.
