The Monks and Knights walking tour starts at the Foro Boario, the place of the 10th labour of Hercules, then climbs from the Tevere river bank up on the Aventino that is one of the seven hills on which Rome was founded back in the 8th century BC, the southernmost and hardest to reach: that’s why during medieval times monks and knights built here their monasteries and sanctuaries.
We will reach the top of the hill through a panoramic path overlooking the Tevere and the City and then head on to discover more of this awesome historic place in Rome.
The walking tour ends at Circus Maximus, between the Aventine and Palatine hill, where we will enjoy the Italian GELATO, a casual conversation, then: "ciao" 'till next time!

An activity with locals from meeting to farewell.

  1. Turner H. Scott:

    What a nice experience.
We met Chiara and Frederico at the meeting point and they’ve been nice to us since the very first moment. The walk is a magnificent one and, though a little steep in the beginning, we enjoyed it very much: the churches, the views and quietness is something amazing. We’d love to thank again our hosts as they’ve been so patient and nice and the final toast with all those lovely finger food was awesome.

  2. Victoria Basavilbaso:

This is the best tour you can do in Rome. It is a luxury to be with Chiara and Federico and learn history and visit the non tourist places that are worth knowing. I have made many tours but this one was the best by far. Unforgettable and with so many tips that will enrich your visit !

  3. Terence Hughes:

It was an informative and interesting experience. I learned a lot about an area of Rome that has always interested me. I’ve visited the Aventine on my own, but the tour put things in historical perspective, which only those who know the place can provide. Chiara and Federico really made it special—such great people. We all hit it off really well, including after the tour itself was over.

  4. Sierra:

Chiara and Federico felt more like knowledgeable local friends than tour leaders/guides! They brought us to such unique places we never would’ve known about. Santa Sabina’s church and her story was fascinating, as well as the church of Sant’Alessio and Bonifacio. The view over Rome from inside an Orange garden was really something! We also got to see the secret view of the dome of Saint Peter through a key hole and learn about the influence of the Knights of Malta. The information was shared in a genuine way, not like a rehearsed and bored guide. We even got a drink with Chiara and Federico at the end, overlooking Circus Maximo..such a unique and memorable experience!

  5. Dana Reynolds:

This was, by far, the best tour we had in Rome because they took the care to go as detailed as we asked about the history and sights. The other tours we had left us feeling a bit overwhelmed by the brush-past of so much, but this tour took its time and really connected the dots for us. More than Monks and Knights, I now feel I have a handle on Rome’s evolution from the beginning and how all the parts of the city related to each other. I encourage everyone to come experience the “other hill” with these excellent tour-hosts. Sitting down with them at the end for wine and conversation will be one of my cherished memories of our trip.
