The last words of Remus: a tale’s of Rome birth

(A dialogue between the twins, moments before fate takes its course on the day of the foundation of Rome: 753 BC)

𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐮𝐬: “Brother, must it come to this? We were born of the same womb, suckled by the same she-wolf, played among the same olive trees. Let the gods decide, not our swords.”

𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐮𝐬: “They already have, Remus. The omens were clear—I saw twelve vultures.”

𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐮𝐬: “And I saw six first. What matters more: the number or the moment? This contest tears the very blood from our veins. Must Rome rise over my corpse?”

𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐮𝐬: “The city needs one king, not two dreamers lost in ancient rivalries.”

𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐮𝐬: “Then let us rule together! You on the Palatine, I on the Aventine. Two hills, one heart. Rome could be a city of brothers, not built on fratricide.”

𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐮𝐬: “Compromise is weakness in the eyes of the gods. Destiny calls for sacrifice.”

𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐮𝐬: sighs “Then let me be the sacrifice. If my blood must feed the soil of Rome, may it nourish her roots for eternity.”

As steel flashed and silence fell over the hills, Remus lay dying. His last breath carried a whisper not of hatred, but of hope:

“May the city to be—Rome—rise in glory, crowned with wisdom, tempered by sorrow. Let my fall give her the strength to endure the centuries.”

And so, while Romulus built Rome, it was Remus who gave her soul. His plea for peace echoed through the ages, a quiet voice beneath the thunder of empire.
