Testaccio Food Market

Testaccio Food Market

When a food market becomes a cool place to hang out and visit.
This is what Testaccio food market is: a special place with lots of light, colors, smiles and stalls, fruit and vegetables, fish and meat, cheese and charcuterie, shoes, socks, clothes, for all budgets and tastes.

The geometric rigor, the white and the clean lines create a pleasant contrast with the colors of the goods, the vitality of the counters and the coming and going of all the people who use the space.

Once a month the market remains open from 8am to midnight, it is Open Day: music, dancing, the stalls become places for an aperitif and dinner and it ends with the deejay set; it hosts special events and days dedicated to show cooking, tastings, educational workshops, archaeological visits, DJ sets and concerts: open to culture and entertainment.

The market stands on an archeological area that is observable from a gallery at the very center of it: a wall is visible that probably belonged to an “Horrea”, a warehouse, dating back to the an early imperial phase (end I BC – end I AD) whose peculiarity lies in the construction material used.
All the “walls” of the system are in fact made with amphorae emptied and reused, stacked on each other.
